British Science Week

British Science Week 2024

This week is British Science week and our students will be involved in a range of different activities across the school and in their science lessons to celebrate.

This year’s theme is ‘Time’ and all activities will have a link to this theme. The week is a celebration of all STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). More pictures showing our students at work across the curriculum will be displayed throughout the week.

Our students were investigating how distractions from mobile phones can affect a person's reaction time, and linking this in with the use of mobile phones when driving.

All part of our celebration of British Science Week '24

British Science Week is here, and we're super excited to celebrate it with our amazing F1 students in Year 7!

This year, we're exploring one of the oldest timekeeping devices known to humanity - the sundial! Sundials have been used for centuries to tell time by using the position and angle of the Sun. Students have created their very own sundials that they are going to test out as soon as the sun shines.

Some of our year 7 Science Week posters are nearly complete. Students have taken to themes around time with thought provoking ideas and questions.

“How has climate change affected our planet?”

“How can we look in space and look into the past?”

“Does it really take 8 minutes for light to get to us from the Sun?”

“Is the film, Back to the future a possibility?”

Our Science week continues with more work on reaction times and how distractions affect reaction times.

Students watched an advert on the importance of not being distracted whilst driving - an important life lesson for students to also not use their phone whilst on their bikes.

Some more British Science Week posters in production all around the theme of time. Space seems to be a very popular topic and a mountain of Easter eggs awaits for some of the best posters.

The geography department supported the National Science Week topic of ‘Time’ by studying time zones across the world. Map and maths skills were used to spark lots of discussion and interest.

Just a small selection of students that received prizes from Science for their amazing posters for Science week on Time.

Well done to all the winners and to everyone that took part, making it such an enjoyable week. The standard of work was fantastic.
