Assessments

Throughout the academic year, we have two key points where students undertake assessments. These assessments take place at the end of the Autumn term and during the Summer term. The Autumn term assessment will commence the week beginning Monday 2nd December and will cover work taught since September.

These assessments are important as they provide teachers with valuable insights into any learning gaps, enabling them to plan future lessons effectively and determine if any interventions are necessary. Using the information gathered we will also update parents / carers on their child’s progress in relation to KS2 scores and attainment as reflected in the assessment results.

Most assessments will be carried out during normal timetabled lessons under examination conditions. However English, Maths and Science will be held in the assembly hall with half year groups. Students will be informed of their assessment dates by their subject teachers, and the timetable for all classes is attached to this letter.

During form time, students will receive advice and guidance on preparing for their assessments, including tips on creating a revision timetable and effective revision techniques. They may need additional support from you in this area. I have included a link to a guide on our website.

Additional preparation will include revision during form time, dedicated revision in lessons, subject-specific checklists, and resources to support thorough exam preparation. However, it is crucial that students also dedicate sufficient time to revising at home.

Your child can also access a range of resources through their Google account, Sparx Maths, GCSE Pod, and Kerboodle for Science. If passwords have been forgotten, they can be reissued by the class or form teacher.

Please encourage your child to plan their revision carefully over the coming weeks to ensure they are well-prepared for their exams.

If you have any further questions about the assessments, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Progress Leader.
