Curriculum Intent Statement

Our intention at Co-op Academy Bebington is to ensure our curriculum: develops the technical, theoretical, conceptual, life skills and knowledge of all of our students while studying Design and Technology.

We aim to do this through a curriculum that engages their curiosity, develops their enterprise and problem solving skills, offers them topics and projects that are relevant to both their own and peers lives and develops highly transferable skills and knowledge that can be used throughout their life, whether they continue with specific Design and Technology based study/careers in the future or not.

We offer students a broad range of topics and subjects at KS3 and allow them to specialise in more career oriented options at KS4. Throughout our offer, we aim to make both the theoretical and practical elements as relevant as possible and at all times, encourage students to develop a full range of life skills. These include; how to research, ways to analyse tasks and products, design solutions to problems, costing, sizing and measurement, presentation skills, how to evaluate tasks and their own performance, IT skills using common and industry standard programs (powerpoint, word, sketchup, photoshop). This is as well as practical life skills through the use of hand tools and materials in the workshop, a grounding in nutrition and the ability to research and analyse both their own and others needs, the ability to plan and cook cheap but nutritious meals for themselves and their family, how to become appreciative but discerning consumers and even down to learning how to lay bricks.

Above all, our curriculum encourages and enables our students to become well rounded individuals, who leave our school better prepared for their lives ahead and help them achieve an exceptional future.
